How to port your number out of Simple Mobile.

Step-by-step: what you need to port your number out of Simple Mobile, including your account number, number transfer PIN (NTP) and ZIP code.

By Sung Hong, Pioneer Mobile

Porting your number out of Simple Mobile can be easy if you’re lucky, or a real pain if you’re not as lucky.

If you’re lucky, everything will come in smoothly with the information you need.

But if you’re not as lucky, everything will be a hassle and take much longer than you hoped.

So here’s what you need to port your number out of Simple Mobile:

  1. First and foremost, your account must be active (meaning your service must be on, so you can still make calls). If your service is not active, you can either pay their cheapest plan of $25 to reactivate it (if you want to port out ASAP), or wait until your next payment is due (but port out 2 days before the service end date).
  2. Find your account number. Log into your Simple Mobile account on the web or in the app and check whether the IMEI on file matches your current device (they usually only show the last 4 digits). If it matches, the IMEI of your current device is your account number. If it does not match, your account number will be your SIM card number. You may have to try both: the full number starting with 8901, or all the digits starting at the 2 after the 8901.
  3. Get your number transfer PIN (NTP). Text NTP to 611611. If the IMEI matches what’s on file, the NTP should come in pretty quickly (within 5 minutes). If the IMEI does not match, it may take longer. If the NTP hasn’t arrived after 5 minutes, call customer service and ask to speak to the porting department. They will create a new NTP and send it to you by text and/or email; this can take up to 1 hour.
  4. Use the ZIP code on file in your account. DO NOT USE THE ACCOUNT NUMBER YOU MAY SEE IN YOUR ACCOUNT. IT IS NOT THE CORRECT ONE.

For dealers who have access to the TFDAP, follow the steps above, but use the TFDAP to access the customer’s account rather than the personal Simple Mobile app.

  • Use the ZIP code you see in their account.
  • Check whether the IMEI on file matches the device they are currently using (only the last 4 digits are shown). If the last 4 digits match, use the IMEI as their account number. If not, use the SIM card number. Some carriers accept the full (18-digit) SIM card number and some accept the 15 digits starting at the 2.
  • To retrieve the NTP, use the steps shown above. DO NOT TEXT NTP to 611611 more than ONCE, unless tech support at Simple Mobile tells you to.
